Cataract is clouding of the clear lens inside an eye. The only effective method to cure cataract is a cataract removal operation and replacement with an intraocular lens implant. Operations clinic are performed applying the high-technology method – phacoemulsification.
The surgery lasts around half an hour. Performing a cataract surgery by phacoemulsification, a small incision is made and the cloudy lens is chopped and aspirated out by ultrasound. An artificial lens is implanted through the same small incision and it occupies the place of the cloudy lens in the capsular bag.
There are several types of artificial lenses: regular foldable, foldable with a blue light filter and foldable adaptable lens imitating accommodation. As artificial lenses are chosen individually to compensate refraction defects, many patients also experience a sharp improvement in vision.
The patient can leave clinic within 20 to 30 minutes after the surgery.
Vision correction by Excimer (‘Carl Zeiss’) laser
Surgical vision correction by excimer laser nowadays is one of the most frequently applied methods for curing myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. During a simple procedure, a laser ray affects a small part of cornea; the refracting power of cornea changes and your visual acuity is improved. The operation usually takes around 15–20 minutes. It is performed under local anaesthesia applying eye drops.
Orthokeratology
Orthokeratology is a safe non-invasive reversionary therapeutic procedure during which the convex of cornea is affected and nearsightedness is reduced improving the visual acuity. Myopia may be corrected during the sleep! Everything is very simple: you put on special contact lenses in the evening before going to bed. During the night, they gently affect your eye surface so that having taken them off in the morning, you will see well during the day. Contact lenses, specially chosen for you, change the convex of cornea during the night. Contact lenses shaped in a special geometric form are made from highly oxygen passing substance. The lenses do not disturb your sleep at all. The result is already clear after wearing contact lenses for several hours, but your sight maximally improves during the first month of wearing lenses. All the changes in the cornea caused by this correction method are restorable. If you do not wear lenses for several days, the cornea restores itself to its initial condition.
